Asmussen/Cooper House

On a protected dune shoreline, facing North toward Lake Michigan on Cathead Bay in Northport, Michigan, the forms of this house draw inspiration from angles of the sun, the naturally curved shapes of dunes and high winter snow drifts. Michigan maple interior wood floors and trim are bleached with a non-toxic oxidizer, then finished with a non-toxic surface. A South facing picture window provides a view into the woods, while smaller highly protected picture windows face the summer blue lake and Northeast winter winds. A redstone faced fireplace is centered in the house and conceived as a heart to keep the house warm in sense and perception. Colorful and playful modern furniture express the ease of living in this place.
